  • Description

The January class is sold out. You can now sign up for February (class starts on February 6).

Do you start many different sketchbooks and never finish one? Do you want to learn many different sketching techniques and have an experienced artist guide you in the process of finding your own voice? Do you want to be part of a relaxed and supportive community of people who share a love for art and a non performative attitude about their own practice?

Then this is the art class for you.

Every Monday evening, from 18 to 20 Berlin time, G Caruso will hold a Sketchbook Practice workshop structured in the old “Bottega d’Arte” style: the class starts with a round of check-in to see how everybody is doing and how their practice is proceeding, then G will show a step-by-step demo about a specific technique or subject, and in the end we will do a feedback round where everybody can share their experience and ask more questions.

The format is flexible and tailored to the specific group of students present, focused on developing a consistent practice mindset and unlocking creative blocks.

Many students in the past years have started and finished sketchbooks during G’s classes, finding the regular classes the right input for their practice.

G’s teaching is informal, inclusive and neurodivergent friendly, there is no social pressure and you can have the level of live interaction you’re comfortable with.

The classes will take place via zoom and a recording will be available in case you miss it.

What are we going to do?

With the new format G is going back to their original “bottega d’arte” style of teaching. We will explore many different topics and techniques during the year, organically evolving around students requests and G’s personal research. You will have the chance to make your own requests during sign up and at any point during the workshop. With more than 15 years of teaching experience in traditional art, G will guide you through a rich exploration of sketchbook practice including:

  • Pencil and Ink drawing techniques
  • Tonal values and shading
  • Structural drawing and urban perspective
  • Drawing as a mindfulness practice
  • Basics of figure drawing
  • Portrait drawing and painting
  • Watercolor for travel sketching and illustration
  • Color theory and color mixing
  • Gouache painting
  • Artist’s studies
  • Mixed Media techniques
  • Developing a personal research or a personal project
  • Landscape framing and Nature rendering
  • How to draw Animals
  • Still Life and finding beauty in the simple everyday things

And so much more!

The class is ongoing the whole year, 4 mondays per month, and you can choose what signing up option works better for you:

1 month 120€ Full price
3 month 288€ 20% discount (96€/month)
6 month 504€ 30% discount (84€/month)

You can find the class calendar here.

If you want to try a class with G before signing up, they teach free classes via Patreon every first Friday of the month: check them out!

You can join the Art Body Doubling sessions on Thursday evenings, from 18 to 20 Berlin time, where you can share a quiet virtual practice space with other students and work on your practice or catch up with missed classes recording.
